Stonemill Slow Crafted Bakehouse

Our Starter’s Start

Baking isn’t just what we do, it’s who we are. Stonemill® Bakehouse began as a fourth-generation family bakery deeply rooted in European tradition.
In the ‘60s, master baker Gustav Boehringer took over his family’s artisan bakery in Germany, growing it into a thriving, respected business.
By 1982, Gustav had brought his passion for sourdough to Canada, opening the first Stonemill® Bakehouse on Main Street in Unionville, Ontario.
Today, we stay true to those original roots. We still use the same authentic European sourdough starter to craft our dough, giving every loaf bold flavour, rich texture, and the exciting goodness we’ve believed in from the starter.
